Leuven is the city of the student. These young people make up almost half of the total population of Leuven and provide a vibrant atmosphere and pleasant bustle in a city that lives to the rythm of the student. The bond between Leuven, its university, colleges and students gives the city that unique atmosphere that consists of a mix of culture, friendships and parties.

Leuven has a lively atmosphere due to the many students from all over Belgium and Erasmus students from all over the world. Especially in the evening, the many bars and student cafes spread throughout the city guarantee that there is always something happening. The area around the Oude Markt is very popular. There is a reason why this square is called the longest bar in Europe!
Or do you prefer to go to the fakbar of one of the different faculties. These cafes are kept open for and by students. Here you can go for a democratic beer among fellow students. Perhaps not an exclusive Leuven phenomenon, but here the fakbars are more alive than in other student cities.

Would you rather soak up some culture? Then you can always go to the STUK Arts Center, the only Flemisch arts center that has grown directly from student activities. Artists and public are literally brought together here.

Do not forget to eat something tasty in one of the nice restaurants in the Muntstraat. From Italian to Japanese, from Spanish to Korean. The world on your plate in this street that has as many restaurants as street cobles.

Would you like to go shopping in Leuven? No problem! Trendy boutiques, colorful trinkets and authentic specialty shops. In Leuven they are within walking distance. Whichever direction you take from the Grote Markt, within a minute you will discover a treasure of shops. And when you need to rest from all that shopping pleasure, pedestrian squares and nice shortcuts lead you past the coffee bars, cafes, terraces and tempting restaurants.
